Grants help fill the gap for services for Texas veterans

On Behalf of | Nov 20, 2014 | Veterans' Benefits

The men and women who serve our country shouldn’t have to worry about where their next meal is going to come from or whether they will have adequate housing. They should be taken care of. While not all veterans qualify for all benefits, there are some community organizations that try to fill the void for veterans who need help but don’t meet the strict requirements for some programs. Those community organizations might be able to reach out to more veterans if they apply for grant money through the Texas Veterans Commission Fund for Veterans’ Assistance.

The grants help out in communities where the veterans might not have adequate resources. With $5 million in general assistance grants and $1.5 million in mental health grants, the men and women who have proudly served our country should be able to get some help that they need.

When you think about it, veterans who are returning to the civilian world after going to war might have serious mental health issues. With proper treatment, those veterans might be assets to the communities in which they live. A simple lack of funding shouldn’t be the reason why a veteran is denied help he or she needs.

The general assistance grants help with more than just mental health. Those can be used to help veterans find jobs, provide legal aid or do anything that can help improve the lives of these brave men and women or their family members.

In addition to the help these organizations provide, some veterans might qualify for other benefits. Knowing what benefits are available and learning about the qualifications and application process for those might help our Texas veterans to get the benefits they deserve.
